Mayakovskaya/Pl. Vostanaya This area is the heart of the city with Nevsky Prospect, St. Petersburg’s main thoroughfare running nearby. The main railroad station - Moscow Station is located in this area so it is a very convenient place to stay in for travelers. The area is short walking distance from many of the city’s major attractions: The Hermitage Museum, the Russian Museum, Kazansky Cathedral as well as many others. There are many interesting architectural sites in this area. Take a walk and look at the various facades of many of the old, grand buildings. Many of the city’s businesses are located in this area as are numerous restaurants and stores. If you are in the city during the white nights season, between mid May and mid August, don’t miss a chance to stroll along the embankment and watch the many bridges across the Neva rise – it is really a spectacular site that you will never forget.
