Apartment in Moscow
I rented my first apartment in Moscow in 2001. Before I got to Moscow, I contacted an agency and received different variations to help with my search for a Moscow apartment. I carefully chose the region of Moscow and the metro that I wanted. I ended up renting my first apartment in Moscow on ulitsa Sroiteli (remember this street from the film Irony Sudbi? or was it sa lyoxhim parom…?) right near the University metro station. It was really an interesting place. This Moscow apartment was owned by a famous Russian doctor/professor and the house was a Stalin period building made from big red bricks. It even had an underground garage built during Stalin’s time! Go to the article
St Petersburg Apartment
My first St Petersburg apartment was located on Sverdlovskaya Naberezhnaya in the same building where the old Nevsky Berega restaurant was located and the, then new, Nevsky Melody. This was in the year 1991 – I moved to this apartment in St. Petersburg – then Leningrad, in September of that year. It was really hard to find anyone renting an apartment in St Petersburg, Russia back then. I checked the newspaper Vecherny Leningrad (later changed to Vecherny St Petersburg) and there were only 2 ads for apartments in Saint Petersburg. I called up the owner who was this Russian guy named Mihail who was soon emigrating to Germany with his wife Rita and daughter Masha. Go to the article
