Location

As with any real estate market, location is one of the most important factors driving rental prices. A property's location within a specific region or street will highly affect its price. The historical center of Moscow is large – some people consider the real central part of Moscow to be the area inside the Garden Ring while others consider the center to cover an even wider area. But of course the most prestigious and expensive areas for apartments among foreigners are in the very center - inside the Garden Ring.

Kremlin Area Kremlin Area.

As it is possible to understand from the name, this is the very center, the heart of Moscow. There are very few residential buildings in the immediate proximity of the Kremlin, the entire area being dedicated solely to state organizations, historical sights or shops.

Tverskaya Area.

You can’t get any more central! Tverskaya street starts right from Red Square and the Kremlin and runs north, where it becomes Leningradsky Prospect. For a long period, Tverskaya has been considered the main street of Moscow, and today it remains a highly sought-after location. Quiet lanes of Tverskaya can be excellent housing options. The main plus here is convenience to “downtown”.

Patriarshy Ponds Area Patriarshy Ponds Area.

Patriarshy Ponds is a clearly defined district to the west of Tverskaya street between the Boulevard Ring and the Garden Ring, with a beautiful pond and a park in its center. Patriarshy Ponds is a very safe area and one of the most sought-after residential areas in Moscow. A favored location of both Muscovites and expatriates. Many Western renovated Russian apartments are located here - or in close proximity to - the large attractive pond.

Arbat, Kropotkinskaya Area.

The Arbat area in Moscow truly symbolizes the history of this great city, but is also a symbol of modern Moscow; this being that Old Arbat, where every stone and every building have great historical ties, reaching back as far as 500 years into the past and considering that New Arbat is one of the most recently built streets in Moscow. The Old Arbat area is one of Moscow's neighborhoods favored by foreign embassies and diplomatic residences, and an endless source of large imposing apartments with high ceilings. The section between the Moscow river and the streets Ostozhenka and Prechistenka have been called the Moscow Golden Mile due to the number of new upscale residential developments in the area. The Pushkin Art Museum, House of Photography, Pedestrian mall Arbat, Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center are all within walking distance. Kropotkinskaya with magnificent view of Christ the Savior Cathedral is also a desirable area. Many Western renovated apartments in pre-revolutionary blocks are located here.

Zamoskvorechie Area.

This area located in the south of the Kremlin is full of charming historical buildings; the world-famous Tretyakov Fine Arts Gallery is also situated here. Zamoskvorechie has recently become the focus of attention of developers. Many Russian banks are locating their headquarters here but still there are some exciting new residential buildings located in the area.

Taganskaya Area.

Taganskaya area is located on the east of the Garden Ring and extends beyond it. In old Moscow the area was surrounded by five monasteries which served the role of protecting Moscow’s eastern border. In the 19th century, this area became one of the main merchant centers of Moscow. Today an increasing number of companies are relocating to this area on the east side of the city.

Chistye Ponds Area Kitai-Gorod, Chistye Ponds Area.

A perfect alternative to Patriarshy Ponds, the Chiste Ponds area is located on both sides of the Boulevard Ring to the East of Sretenka Street. Medieval churches and merchant estates still coexist peacefully with Stalin-era housing blocks and overhauled pre-Revolutionary buildings. The Kitai-Gorod section, closest to the Kremlin, is also one of the city's business districts. Great number of theatres, museums and cozy cafes make this area extremely attractive for living here.

Tsvetnoy Boulevard Area Tsvetnoy Boulevard Area.

Situated between the Sretenka Street and the Tverskaya Street, this area would be perfect for those seeking an inexpensive central home. Most vintage buildings along Sretenka retained their original facades but have been completely overhauled to become upscale business centers and housing projects. Petrovsky and Rozhdestvensky boulevards with their centuries-old trees have been preserved remarkably well and offer beautiful walks in summertime.

There are still some interesting and popular areas in Moscow outside of the Garden Ring. Information about them can be found below.

Frunzenskaya Area.

Frunzenskaya embankment has been a desired location among Muscovites since Soviet times. It is one of the very few residential areas in Moscow with so much greenery and which is so close to nature. Located on the bank of the Moscow river, overlooking Neskuchny Sad and Gorky Park, with children playgrounds in every yard, Frunzenskaya offers a wonderful lifestyle for families with children or simply those who love jogging, biking or rollerblading along the river or having a peaceful stroll in the park. Many apartments here offer breathtaking river and park views.

Kutuzovsky Prospekt Area Kutuzovsky Prospekt Area.

Kutuzovsky Prospekt continues from the New Arbat and leads directly to the West - to Moscow's most prestigious suburbs along Minskoye, Mozhaiskoye and Rublyovo-Uspenskoye Highways. Massive Stalin-era houses in its downtown section are succeeded by elite governmental residential compounds around the Kuntsevskaya metro station with the recent addition of super-modern Western-style high-rise housing condominiums. The Mosfilmovskaya Street neighbourhood, an ecological oasis crowded with foreign embassies and diplomatic residences, offers a wide variety of residential properties and convenient access by car.

Krasnopresnenskaya Area.

This area is located immediately outside the Garden ring, on the North-West. It is a great option for those who want to live in the center of the city without overpaying for it. Krasnopresnenskaya area is only half a mile away from Tverskaya, the Garden ring, Patriarchy Ponds, Smolenskaya and other most central and expensive areas. At the same time it is 10% to 25% less expensvie. Moreover, this area is unusually green for Moscow - there several parks and the Moscow Zoo. Most residential buildings have breathtaking views to the Zoo ponds with swans, the White House, two or three Stalin skyscrapers.
